The Book of B&B (Basslines and Baseball) Chapter 11

Hello America,

Had a couple of setbacks and development, we are going to get to that......

Let's get some formalities out of the way

@tmims50 political commentary, Hey, anybody and everybody can get it.  I have a wonderful tweet family, they help me learn, and they help me grow.  They tell me when I am wrong, they pat me on the shoulder when I'm right, they pray for me when I'm down.  It simply doesn't get any better than  that.  Mostly conservative, not necessarily republican, but just folk that love America and grown enough to have intelligent conversation about the state of this country.  And when I'm in the mood, I'll rattle off a good 40 tweets to Obama himself, about whatever hits my mind.  I think that we over 2000, no apps, no programs, just networking.  Censored account

@pendecadentdiva, my commentary about everything else, right now, it’s going to be sports, television, hey just whatever hits my mind. This is my uncensored account and while I do have my days, just real talk, when I am not at work.  I am building my network of entertainers, songwriters, beat makers actors and the like because I will be moving into political issue ads next keep following sending me your music, beats, catching up enough where I can start to listen to the   hundreds of cd's and links I got.  Bear with me..... Just gotta a new site up for all of the songs that I rewrite and a way to interact with artists It will be up and running by October 1st, gotta buy the domain, but health costs come first

We got like 1000 on that account, let's keep making hits, Grammies and everything in between, follow me, I follow back.

@jjauthor Jamie Johnson, her link is to the right, she is the author of the book Don't take My Lemonade Stand, a book that ought to be required reading for every civic class.  Yes, civics is needed, how can inform our youth to use their vote properly when the only elections that schools chose to discuss involve reality shows and popularity contests, we hurt ourselves, we hurt this country by not addressing it.  Her link is the right check it out show her some love, the addy listed above is her twitter account.  good people, great patriot.

@MicheleBachmann no doubt the 46th President.  Yeah, I know right now, Perry, Romney and Palin have the buzz right now, but the race belongs not to the swift nor the strong but he that endureth the longest.  She is a woman of God and said she prayed about this mission God put in her heart and she has not shown me anything to make me think that she takes any of this lightly.  I am trying to be a woman of God and I know together along with the millions of voices some old, some new that are starting to believe in Bachmann(ah-ha.........catchy isn't it) use it, pay me, I need it. we are going to get some hope and change in the white house, we all can believe in......Bachmann style.  her link is to the right, check it out.  check her out.

I have a donation fund to the right, times are hard for everybody but if you have something you want to share, I would appreciate it.  I don't really expect anything from it; it is more of a symbol you know that if I ask, God says I shall receive.  And although PayPal doesn't take prayers, I most certainly do.

Last but not least, show love to my blogging brothers on the right, from spirituality to local Dallas news, to news you can't find anywhere in the mainstream media.  They are courageous men with the audacity to tell the truth, support them please

I have been trying to get back to the conservative values discussion but God works things how he does it.

So today because I don't have the energy, let me get a couple of personal notes out of the way and then we are going to go old school as far as this site is concerned and respond to Obama's call for classwarfare directly......

I received a Texas state jail felony in 2000.  It is considered a felony here, but not elsewhere in the country.  However, due to the rampant identity theft that empowers good illegals to gain housing, employment, cars, insurance without detection, I was unable to get federal benefits or things of that nature for a very long time.

Last Friday, that came to an end.  I have had a massive tumor, I will not reveal the true amount on here, let's say 10 lbs is a loose estimate I had to have emergency surgery resulting in 29,000 in medical bills.  Was forced to apply for medicaid? I believe, food stamps all of that.

Last Friday, through you all I was approved for benefits.  Now, I am a proud that I am receiving government assistance, yes and no.  I don't plan on using them long term, but I have worked hard and paid my taxes and I need the help right now.  As soon as the doctor gives me clearance, looking for a job so I can get off them.

It is the larger ramifications that are of importance.  I no longer have to check felon when applying for a job.  It means a lot, it opens a lot more doors to me.  I should have been able to do this ten years ago, but when family and in laws sell your name to illegals and pay off dirty city, county, state and federal officials..........justice is nothing more than a campaign promise.

ssn to hide his illegal workers.  A job which made a relatively small fibroid grow into something that required 30 staples, an 15 inch incision to get out of me.......when I should have been working in an office or something that I was qualified for and that my body could handle.

Good illegals cost way more than jobs, they cost lives of legal citizens to hide them from detection my life is proof of that.  and its not a republican or democrat thing, perry, bush, clinton nor obama did anything to help me despite over 1000 complaints.

I did by the grace of god.

And because of the lies that I was told and forced to endure, I changed my major from mft as I was led to believe that I couldn't get a marriage and family therapist licence, a way to employ myself and help others, believe or not, very good at what I do, psychodynamic in theory.  to an ma in hopes of teaching or working as a research asst.  Now I have to take almost $40,000 more coursework at Pepperdine just to walk with my MFT, I have to commute to LA until spring of 2013 at least once a week to do my practicum and finish coursework.........

I want to ask Perry and Obama are the good illegals going to pay for the tab of my life they cost?

I think of the abuse I suffered at the hands of my exhusband, staying because I was despondent, because as a felon, it's hard.  You see good illegals get jobs but you a bad legal.  Nobody knows what these good illegals were in their country, they just get to put on a new face and our government and law enforcement allows them to steal lives in the sake of justice.  They get to feed their families, but we can't............

And wonder mike starts off his speech with fair and if it don't add up.

This from a President with record unemployment numbers telling every good illegal committing a federal felony yeah, you can keep your job, put legal citizens out of work.  One could be bitter, but I don't trust man, I trust God and I know the path he took me down is so I can speak and mean the words that I say now........

Because of the dirty dallas police officers that helped members of my family, that helped members of my ex inlaws, they are still trying to find ways to continue the fraud.  Obama has empowered good illegals so much these days that if they are not taken care of in regards to identity theft through legal citizens keeping them from detection, they will go public and the dirty cops and dirty folk who help and empower them will go to jail.

Rick Perry can't afford that, George W. Bush can't afford that, and Barack Obama can't afford that as my case directly affects these three men who chose to do nothing for the sake of at the time me being a "bad" legal and choosing a good "illegal".

I cannot move to another address in Dallas, TX.  I have to buy a home that necessarily don't want, but have to ensure that it is the last address I will ever reside at in Dallas County just to stop the fraud.  I am not mad, it is a nice two bedroom, I stay by myself.........

But my power to chose where I want to stay is gone.

I have to pay $30,000 I know its just an older wood house, just to tear it down and rebuild another home so that no other identity theft thief can get it.  I can never have a mortgage in this county, I can never rent another property in this county.  So no other person can say they stay at an address that I used to.  I have to end the fraud myself.

And the ironic part of it is, I was planning on moving in three weeks.

I sat down yesterday, and I looked outside my home and God sat next to me.

He was quiet, he knows why I want to leave, he knows I deserve the right to leave.

He knows I feel like a slave, like Kunta only the shackles that bind my feet ain't physically, they are legal by the refusal of aforementioned individuals to stand up for legal citizens even if they bad for the sake of "good" illegals.......

We sit there for a spell, the summer is over, by the grace of god, I made it with a tumor that almost caused my liver and kidneys to shut down...........

Fall is here, the state fair of texas is here, BOOMER SOONER is still #1, a blessed time, a blessed time indeed.

God says to me" I am not going to apologize, Tiffani as your life is really my life.  But I am sorry, you can't go where you feel comfortable.  I am sorry that along the path I meant for you, you got hurt........ I know you feel trapped, but I have a battle I need you to fight and that is what it is......."

I never look at God.  I am tired.  Tired of the corruption of Dallas County, overwhelmed by what identity theft has cost me.

I simply say " I ain't mad........ we all have to do what we have to do."

He continues to stroke his beard........... "How else were you going to fight for bad legal citizens unless you live the life they lived?"

and for that I have no answer.........

I have no response...........

Just tears because as much as I love Texas, I am Texas and I know the truth about why the job rates are the way they are here, and why Perry and Bush and crew can really pound their chests and I'm tired.

But just like you all that get everyday, and didn't get the biopsy result I did, or maybe you did. that gotta raise your kids, help your parents, help your community, everyday while being robbed for the sake of social justice, I gotta get up and do what I do.

Do what God puts on my heart to do..........

This is life on the plantation named Texas.........

And I am not young enough no more to be stupid enough to try to run off the plantation, my ankles, my body been too broken up too many times.

I am a Texan and down here we celebrate juneteenth because it is a reminder of the attitude and mantras we face down here.

I have to use my voice, my life in ways that I don't want to, to free the slaves of the state that produces 45% of all of the jobs in the nation.

And the slaves are black, white, Hispanic, Asian, African, all colors......... all sizes.........

men and women.......

The only thing they have in common is that they are legal American citizens.

Watching slavemaster Perry makes deals with the cartels, watching slavemaster Obama makes deals with iran and every other enemy we have, watching the geo-political powers that hire these two men both make deals with every enemy we have to break us out of the truth that has sustained this nation.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all.

Liberty and justice for all that legally call American home.  Pledging allegiance towards our rules, even the ones we don't like and enduring the consequences of breaking them........

God told me as much as I deserve to leave this plantation and I am using literary licence because I can........

As much as I deserve to leave, his people, legal American citizens do to.

And through his grace and mercy they won't have to run away,

we will simply restore the flag our pledge and our dedication to our country and our way of life high as the heavens.......

We will sing next year, free at last, free at last, THANK GOD ALL MIGHTY We are free at last, not because Obama is out, which he will be.

But because we will employ a leader that is willing to put each and every illegal good or bad out, just as vehemently as we put every good and bad legal criminal in jail.

and then and only then will be free at last, where liberty and justice for all legal citizens can ran down on the just and the unjust alike.

Let's get some raw unedited commentary to Obama's speech on jacking today and then we are through.

Mr. Obama's speech from today, a lot of words saying nothing........but out of respect for the office what can you do?

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning, everybody. Please have a seat.

A week ago today, I sent Congress the American Jobs Act. It’s a plan that will lead to new jobs for teachers, for construction workers, for veterans, and for the unemployed. It will cut taxes for every small business owner and virtually every working man and woman in America. And the proposals in this jobs bill are the kinds that have been supported by Democrats and Republicans in the past. So there shouldn’t be any reason for Congress to drag its feet. They should pass it right away. I'm ready to sign a bill. I've got the pens all ready.

It doesn't take you long to jump into the lies, does it Mr. Obama?  But I've seen your poll numbers, you can't fire your staff because they are your donors.  Nobody is dragging their feet, IT IS CALLED READING THE BILL AND GOING THROUGH THE PROPER CHANNELS.  You got pens ready?  Do you think you are talking to some children? But when your voting base supports you because your black half is a brother...... maybe you just reaching your people, I don't know.  And just so you know just because dems and repubs supported it don't make it right, but members in both parties supported slavery as well.  You should be ready to do something, not like you been at work

Now, as I said before, Congress should pass this bill knowing that every proposal is fully paid for. The American Jobs Act will not add to our nation’s debt. And today, I’m releasing a plan that details how to pay for the jobs bill while also paying down our debt over time.

And this is important, because the health of our economy depends in part on what we do right now to create the conditions where businesses can hire and middle-class families can feel a basic measure of economic security. But in the long run, our prosperity also depends on our ability to pay down the massive debt we’ve accumulated over the past decade in a way that allows us to meet our responsibilities to each other and to the future.

Congress does know how it is paid for the payroll tax credit is paid for by not paying social security, not paying doctors and medical facilities for medicare and medicaid while obamacare coming in less than a year puts millions of more people on these rolls, without giving the states additional money to pay for them.  All that time on the bus and you wrote a plan and didn't have a way to pay for it.....

But it's not like you've ever had a real job before only expense as a community organizer you were worried about is helping acorn bleed more money from the "man".  You increase spending by over 40% increase the payroll by 30%, got 8 trillion dollars without even a crack pipe to show for it, but now it's time to stop spending.......You have no intention of stopping spending, you just want to spend our money versus ourselves.  Now we had to kick England's butt behind that, do you really want some of that east lawn love?

During this past decade, profligate spending in Washington, tax cuts for multi-millionaires and billionaires, the cost of two wars, and the recession turned a record surplus into a yawning deficit, and that left us with a big pile of IOUs. If we don’t act, that burden will ultimately fall on our children’s shoulders. If we don’t act, the growing debt will eventually crowd out everything else, preventing us from investing in things like education, or sustaining programs like Medicare.

Didn't stop you from signing a bill with it last time, what's different................?  oh, that's right, poll numbers lower than romo's qb rating, you don't care about legal children when you tell the parents of illegal children they can have legal children's parents jobs.......why do you lie, why can't you just be honest with your intent.  You are a political, social, cultural and fiscal terrorist.

So Washington has to live within its means. The government has to do what families across this country have been doing for years. We have to cut what we can’t afford to pay for what really matters. We need to invest in what will promote hiring and economic growth now while still providing the confidence that will come with a plan that reduces our deficits over the long-term.

we pay for secret service so you can ride around on a month for nothing and you even mention those words.......I don't care how much it costs, I want you to take a drug test dear sir, I have to know what drug you are taking that is that good for delusion and arrogance this big.

These principles were at the heart of the deficit framework that I put forward in April. It was an approach to shrink the deficit as a share of the economy, but not to do so so abruptly with spending cuts that would hamper growth or prevent us from helping small businesses and middle-class families get back on their feet.

It was an approach that said we need to go through the budget line-by-line looking for waste, without shortchanging education and basic scientific research and road construction, because those things are essential to our future. And it was an approach that said we shouldn't balance the budget on the backs of the poor and the middle class; that for us to solve this problem, everybody, including the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations, have to pay their fair share.

fair share 49% pay for 80% of costs and you want to raise that  to almost 100%, be thankful I don't curse on here anymore.  Poor people can't afford to pay their fair share, they need their tax return, ask hr block and jackson hewitt........

Now, during the debt ceiling debate, I had hoped to negotiate a compromise with the Speaker of the House that fulfilled these principles and achieved the $4 trillion in deficit reduction that leaders in both parties have agreed we need -- a grand bargain that would have strengthened our economy, instead of weakened it. Unfortunately, the Speaker walked away from a balanced package. What we agreed to instead wasn’t all that grand. But it was a start -- roughly $1 trillion in cuts to domestic spending and defense spending.

Everyone knows we have to do more, and a special joint committee of Congress is assigned to find more deficit reduction. So, today, I’m laying out a set of specific proposals to finish what we started this summer -- proposals that live up to the principles I’ve talked about from the beginning. It’s a plan that reduces our debt by more than $4 trillion, and achieves these savings in a way that is fair -- by asking everybody to do their part so that no one has to bear too much of the burden on their own.

special committees and czars are created by you because you don't have the education nor expertise to work with congress. You are jakarta's ........ fill in the blank, you just keep finding folk to tell you what you want, like romo had to run through all those receivers who found one who would listen to him and not check him for the coward on the field he is...... that supercommittee is the manifestation of the dream you wrote in your thesis, the destruction of the us military because you know the right will stand their ground and so will the left.

49% pay 80% of the costs, if warren buffet wants to pay more he can, but the yokes of my wealthy brothers and sisters who create jobs are tired.  Vick went down last night, yeah, he is in that top 1% but he could easily be like peyton, waking up realizing daddy ain't going to play no more.  Who are you to judge what's fair? You don't follow the rules, I don't see your uncle on that long plane ride back to the motherland ......
All told, this plan cuts $2 in spending for every dollar in new revenues. In addition to the $1 trillion in spending that we’ve already cut from the budget, our plan makes additional spending cuts that need to happen if we’re to solve this problem. We reform agricultural subsidies -- subsidies that a lot of times pay large farms for crops that they don't grow. We make modest adjustments to federal retirement programs. We reduce by tens of billions of dollars the tax money that goes to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. We also ask the largest financial firms -- companies saved by tax dollars during the financial crisis -- to repay the American people for every dime that we spent. And we save an additional $1 trillion as we end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

BofA and others did try to pay you back remember, we had to threaten you with dereliction of duty to take the checks.  Agricultural subsidies keep the food prices where large geo political conglomerates like the one Senator John Kerry wife owns can make a profit and not sell our food to china , we know this.  Modest? please, you are robbing social security which folk worked hard and paid for so that the dream act and other acts to help good illegals who steal jobs can stay afloat until you, pelosi and reid can get them amnesty.  ALL WORKERS, ALL STATES DESERVE HELP, NOT JUST OHIO BECAUSE THAT'S BOEHNER LAND OR KY BECAUSE MONEY MITCH CALL'S the bluegrass state home.

You don't care about anyone.  Wars ain't about costs they about protection, and our troops are getting slaughtered because you playing with our military emotion.  They got loved ones who don't have the heart to tell them how bad it is over here, until they see it for themselves.  There are no jobs, not unless you belong to a union, or a citizen of another country.
These savings are not only counted as part of our plan, but as part of the budget plan that nearly every Republican on the House voted for.

wrong is wrong, that's why the tea party emerged no excuse.

Finally, this plan includes structural reforms to reduce the cost of health care in programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Keep in mind we've already included a number of reforms in the health care law, which will go a long way towards controlling these costs. But we're going to have to do a little more. This plan reduces wasteful subsidies and erroneous payments while changing some incentives that often lead to excessive health care costs. It makes prescriptions more affordable through faster approval of generic drugs. We’ll work with governors to make Medicaid more efficient and more accountable. And we’ll change the way we pay for health care. Instead of just paying for procedures, providers will be paid more when they improve results -- and such steps will save money and improve care.

It will be more efficient because you don't plan on paying vendors and when they drop medicare from their practices, it will be less doctors and stuff to deal with.  Increasing the wait times for our most vulnerable, I know.......  You want to cut benefits of legal citizens of any kind, but stop workplace raids because good illegals like your uncle are of no cost to you.

I don't care if you win or lose, 11/08/2012, you getting evicted.
These changes are phased in slowly to strengthen Medicare and Medicaid over time. Because while we do need to reduce health care costs, I’m not going to allow that to be an excuse for turning Medicare into a voucher program that leaves seniors at the mercy of the insurance industry. And I'm not going to stand for balancing the budget by denying or reducing health care for poor children or those with disabilities. So we will reform Medicare and Medicaid, but we will not abandon the fundamental commitment that this country has kept for generations.

Dude, you stand by and do it all the time anyway, how many waivers have you given to Pelosi for Obamacare.  You stand by your job czar and watch him give 1000s of jobs to china.  Stop acting like you care about the children, poverty levels are higher than the last 13 years, even under dumb he don't know what he is doing Bush and as much as you let your base dog Palin's child, you shouldn't even be allowed to say the word disabilities.

And by the way, that includes our commitment to Social Security. I've said before, Social Security is not the primary cause of our deficits, but it does face long-term challenges as our country grows older. And both parties are going to need to work together on a separate track to strengthen Social Security for our children and our grandchildren.

So this is how we can reduce spending: by scouring the budget for every dime of waste and inefficiency, by reforming government spending, and by making modest adjustments to Medicare and Medicaid. But all these reductions in spending, by themselves, will not solve our fiscal problems. We can’t just cut our way out of this hole. It’s going to take a balanced approach. If we’re going to make spending cuts -- many of which we wouldn’t make if we weren’t facing such large budget deficits -- then it’s only right that we ask everyone to pay their fair share.

Okay, let the 49% that pay the 80% of cost pay only 49%.  You think we dumb, yo..........

That what makes me want to get a switch............and just remind you we are not dummies.

No study has shown a tax increase that high on the top earners of this country has any substantive valueYou know, last week, Speaker of the House John Boehner gave a speech about the economy. And to his credit, he made the point that we can’t afford the kind of politics that says it’s “my way or the highway.” I was encouraged by that. Here’s the problem: In that same speech, he also came out against any plan to cut the deficit that includes any additional revenues whatsoever. He said -- I'm quoting him -- there is “only one option.” And that option and only option relies entirely on cuts. That means slashing education, surrendering the research necessary to keep America’s technological edge in the 21st century, and allowing our critical public assets like highways and bridges and airports to get worse. It would cripple our competiveness and our ability to win the jobs of the future. And it would also mean asking sacrifice of seniors and the middle class and the poor, while asking nothing of the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations.

He was right, when you out of money, when you ain't getting no more which you are not, you cut.  American families have to do it everyday, everybody don't get to freeload off of taxpayers.........You do, but we don't.

So the Speaker says we can’t have it "my way or the highway," and then basically says, my way -- or the highway. (Laughter.) That’s not smart. It’s not right. If we’re going to meet our responsibilities, we have to do it together.

not smart was taking 8 trillion dollars to promise shovel ready jobs when you ain't had a real job paying the bottom line for your family in your life.  Not Right is sending men and women to life for child support but telling good illegals because you all heart in the right place, no accountability.  There can be no responsibility without accountability.
Now, I’m proposing real, serious cuts in spending. When you include the $1 trillion in cuts I’ve already signed into law, these would be among the biggest cuts in spending in our history. But they’ve got to be part of a larger plan that’s balanced –- a plan that asks the most fortunate among us to pay their fair share, just like everybody else.

And that’s why this plan eliminates tax loopholes that primarily go to the wealthiest taxpayers and biggest corporations –- tax breaks that small businesses and middle-class families don’t get. And if tax reform doesn't get done, this plan asks the wealthiest Americans to go back to paying the same rates that they paid during the 1990s, before the Bush tax cuts.

as long as there is a lawyer that actually earned his or her degree and can prove it through their actions, will always be a loophole.  you have more corporate donors than romney, you know this.

I promise it’s not because anybody looks forward to the prospects of raising taxes or paying more taxes. I don’t. In fact, I’ve cut taxes for the middle class and for small businesses, and through the American Jobs Act, we’d cut taxes again to promote hiring and put more money into the pockets of people. But we can’t afford these special lower rates for the wealthy -– rates, by the way, that were meant to be temporary. Back when these first -- these tax cuts, back in 2001, 2003, were being talked about, they were talked about temporary measures. We can’t afford them when we’re running these big deficits.

Now, I am also ready to work with Democrats and Republicans to reform our entire tax code, to get rid of the decades of accumulated loopholes, special interest carve-outs, and other tax expenditures that stack the deck against small business owners and ordinary families who can’t afford Washington lobbyists or fancy accountants. Our tax code is more than 10,000 pages long. If you stack up all the volumes, they’re almost five feet tall. That means that how much you pay often depends less on what you make and more on how well you can game the system, and that's especially true of the corporate tax code.

We’ve got one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, but it’s riddled with exceptions and special interest loopholes. So some companies get out paying a lot of taxes, while the rest of them end up having to foot the bill. And this makes our entire economy less competitive and our country a less desirable place to do business.

That has to change. Our tax code shouldn’t give an advantage to companies with the best-connected lobbyists. It should give an advantage to companies that invest in the United States of America and create jobs in the United States of America. And we can lower the corporate rate if we get rid of all these special deals.

So I am ready, I am eager, to work with Democrats and Republicans to reform the tax code to make it simpler, make it fairer, and make America more competitive. But any reform plan will have to raise revenue to help close our deficit. That has to be part of the formula. And any reform should follow another simple principle: Middle-class families shouldn’t pay higher taxes than millionaires and billionaires. That’s pretty straightforward. It’s hard to argue against that. Warren Buffett’s secretary shouldn’t pay a higher tax rate than Warren Buffett. There is no justification for it.

It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million. Anybody who says we can’t change the tax code to correct that, anyone who has signed some pledge to protect every single tax loophole so long as they live, they should be called out. They should have to defend that unfairness -- explain why somebody who's making $50 million a year in the financial markets should be paying 15 percent on their taxes, when a teacher making $50,000 a year is paying more than that -- paying a higher rate. They ought to have to answer for it. And if they’re pledged to keep that kind of unfairness in place, they should remember, the last time I checked the only pledge that really matters is the pledge we take to uphold the Constitution.

Now, we’re already hearing the usual defenders of these kinds of loopholes saying this is just “class warfare.” I reject the idea that asking a hedge fund manager to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or a teacher is class warfare. I think it’s just the right the thing to do. I believe the American middle class, who've been pressured relentlessly for decades, believe it’s time that they were fought for as hard as the lobbyists and some lawmakers have fought to protect specialusual defenders of these kinds of loopholes saying this is just “class warfare.” I reject the idea that asking a hedge fund manager to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or a teacher is class warfare. I think it’s just the right the thing to do. I believe the American middle class, who've been pressured relentlessly for decades, believe it’s time that they were fought for as hard as the lobbyists and some lawmakers have fought to protect special treatment for billionaires and big corporations.

Nobody wants to punish success in America. What’s great about this country is our belief that anyone can make it and everybody should be able to try -– the idea that any one of us can open a business or have an idea and make us millionaires or billionaires. This is the land of opportunity. That’s great. All I’m saying is that those who have done well, including me, should pay our fair share in taxes to contribute to the nation that made our success possible. We shouldn’t get a better deal than ordinary families get. And I think most wealthy Americans would agree if they knew this would help us grow the economy and deal with the debt that threatens our future.

It comes down to this: We have to prioritize. Both parties agree that we need to reduce the deficit by the same amount -- by $4 trillion. So what choices are we going to make to reach that goal? Either we ask the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share in taxes, or we’re going to have to ask seniors to pay more for Medicare. We can’t afford to do both.

Either we gut education and medical research, or we’ve got to reform the tax code so that the most profitable corporations have to give up tax loopholes that other companies don’t get. We can’t afford to do both.

This is not class warfare. It’s math. (Laughter.) The money is going to have to come from someplace. And if we’re not willing to ask those who've done extraordinarily well to help America close the deficit and we are trying to reach that same target of $4 trillion, then the logic, the math says everybody else has to do a whole lot more: We’ve got to put the entire burden on the middle class and the poor. We’ve got to scale back on the investments that have always helped our economy grow. We’ve got to settle for second-rate roads and second-rate bridges and second-rate airports, and schools that are crumbling.

That’s unacceptable to me. That’s unacceptable to the American people. And it will not happen on my watch. I will not support -- I will not support -- any plan that puts all the burden for closing our deficit on ordinary Americans. And I will veto any bill that changes benefits for those who rely on Medicare but does not raise serious revenues by asking the wealthiest Americans or biggest corporations to pay their fair share. We are not going to have a one-sided deal that hurts the folks who are most vulnerable.

None of the changes I’m proposing are easy or politically convenient. It’s always more popular to promise the moon and leave the bill for after the next election or the election after that. That’s been true since our founding. George Washington grappled with this problem. He said, “Towards the payment of debts, there must be revenue; that to have revenue there must be taxes; [and] no taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant.” He understood that dealing with the debt is -- these are his words -- “always a choice of difficulties.” But he also knew that public servants weren’t elected to do what was easy; they weren’t elected to do what was politically advantageous. It’s our responsibility to put country before party. It’s our responsibility to do what’s right for the future.

And that’s what this debate is about. It’s not about numbers on a ledger; it’s not about figures on a spreadsheet. It’s about the economic future of this country, and it’s about whether we will do what it takes to create jobs and growth and opportunity while facing up to the legacy of debt that threatens everything we’ve built over generations.

And it’s also about fairness. It’s about whether we are, in fact, in this together, and we’re looking out for one another. We know what’s right. It’s time to do what’s right.
